What is housing like?
We are in dorm style rooms. Each room can hold 2-3 campers. We will assign rooms grouped together by parish. It is up to the group leader to assign youth to those rooms. Down the hall are the showers and bathrooms. We have separate buildings for males and females.

top

I have food allergies, can you accommodate these?
We try our best to accommodate food allergies. It is imperative that you inform the camp as far in advance as possible. It is recommended that the person bring supplemental snacks for themselves.

top

Is there a full time nurse on staff?
We have a full time nurse on staff. The nurse will pass out all medications to the campers and will be on hand to handle any emergencies. Please make sure you turn in your medications at registration. The nurse will have plenty of general first aid items including ibuprofen and tylenol, there is no need for you to bring these pills yourself.

top

How much does it cost?
The final cost is up to each individual parish, please check with your group leader. They may decide to include the cost of chaperones or cost of extra things (e.g. t-shirts, back packs, etc) into your individual cost.

At Camp

Can we bring our priest / religious to camp?
Absolutely! We welcome and highly encourage it! Priests attend camp for free. All other clergy/seminarians serving as chaperones must pay the full camp price. *We cannot guarantee separate housing for seminarians.

top

Can my chaperones bring their young children to camp?
We value families and love to see them on our campus. If room is available we can accommodate non-camper children in camper housing. Your group must have enough chaperones staying with your teens and your group leader must approve. Additional housing is not included in the camp price. The cost is $50/ child. Once a child has reached the age of campers, they are not allowed to attend as part of a family, they must attend as campers or not at all.

top

What if a camper wants to go home mid-week?
For those campers who experience homesickness, in most cases it quickly passes as the camper becomes busy with activities and making new camp friends. However, sometimes homesickness does not pass or a child may not be ready to attend a full week of overnight summer camp. While campers should come to camp with the intention of spending the entire week, should your child experience any of these situations, please be assured that we contact you from camp and together we’ll discuss a plan on how to best respond to the situation at hand. Please note that refunds will not be available for campers who leave early. Our camp staff and all accommodations for your camper have already been expensed in expectation of your camper’s arrival at camp.

Do you have cell phone service at camp?
Campers are not allowed to have phones while at camp. For chaperones – some service providers work better than others but all can be unreliable at times.

top

Can I send mail to my camper?
You may send mail to your camper. Please address your envelope like so:
Camp Savio
Camper Name – Parish
1000 Green Street

I sent my kid with no phone but everyone else had theirs! So what is the rule for real? It was not enforced.

    • campsaviokcsj December 1, 2016 · Reply

      Kerrie,
Thank you for the question. Cell phones are not allowed. That is the camp rule. Unfortunately, kids can be sneaky and have their phones without us realizing it. I will make sure this year to enforce the rule to the group leaders for them to force to their attendees and hopefully that will cut back on the number of cell phones present.
